FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can benefit from chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care can benefit people of all age groups and fitness levels from

children, to office workers and professional athletes. It is common for individuals

to seek care due to recent injury, however more people are beginning to utilize

chiropractors as an important part of their regular healthcare.

Do I need to keep coming back forever?

No. Modern chiropractic care consists of educating and rehabilitating the patient.

Dr. Mondoux’s goal is to limit his role as much as possible while giving you the

tools to manage your conditions yourself. Some patients enjoy periodic

appointments to help manage chronic conditions or as a preventative measure,

while others prefer to only seek care when a problem arises. Regardless of what

you choose, Dr. Mondoux will be happy to see you the next time you come into the

office.

What will my treatment plan look like?

A typical treatment plan consists of a few initial visits grouped together over a

short period of time (ex. 6 visits over 2 weeks). This trial of care will allow us to

establish if the treatments are appropriate and effective. The goal is then to

decrease treatments over time to a point where the initial cause of the condition

is addressed and reoccurrence can be minimized.

Do I need a referral for chiropractic care?

No. Chiropractors are regulated primary care professionals all across Canada. This means that you can consult them directly without special referral. Chiropractors often work closely with medical doctors and other healthcare professionals so cross-referrals are very common and often takes place when in the best interest of the patient.

What is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is a safe and effective form of treatment. It is a highly skilled and specific force applied to a joint to promote a full range of motion. The sudden stretch of the surrounding tissue can also release any adhesions or scar tissue and promote proper biomechanical function of the area.

What is the cracking sound?

The popping or clicking sound that can accompany an adjustment is a completely normal process. Dissolved gas molecules in the joint fluid are released as a vacuum forms within the joint being treated. The sound is not necessary for an effective adjustment as there are many different ways to adjust a joint that do not make any noises.

Is chiropractic safe?

Although every form of treatment carries risk, chiropractic care when performed by a competent provider is regarded as one of the safest forms of therapy. Many patients experience immediate relief after an adjustment. Side effects can include short-term tenderness or stiffness and will be addressed accordingly by your doctor.

Will I need X-rays?

In most cases, x-rays are not necessary before beginning treatment. If the doctor feels that it is required to rule out a more serious medical condition, or to make a more accurate diagnosis, they can order them for you.

Is chiropractic care covered by OHIP?

No. Chiropractic care is not currently covered by OHIP.

Is chiropractic care covered by extended health plans?

Most extended health plans do offer coverage for chiropractic care. It is recommended that you consult with your insurance provider as to the extent of coverage as it varies greatly between providers. We are also set up to directly bill most insurance companies, to make the process as easy as possible for you.
